Why Change isn’t Always Necessary to Grow Your Business

For business owners everywhere who have managed to establish a strong and well-founded business, the next question always is, “How do I grow my business?” This is the next question always, and it seems to be the number one question on every business owner’s mind just about twenty-four seven.

A wise business owner once said to me, “You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to grow your business.” As cliche as that may sound, it really stuck with me through the years and left a lasting impression in my mind of how I could grow my business and expand in my areas of success without necessarily making complete changes within my own companies. So that begs the question then, “How do you grow a business without making huge changes?”

When growing a business, there are four, key areas that one needs to keep in mind when working on expansion. These are:

  • Reapply successful actions continuously, exactly duplicated, as long as they are successful. This is the theory of successful action. When you find something that works in your business and is conducive to expansion, keep it up! This is not something that you want to stop doing by any means at all. In fact, you want to keep up your successful actions and just keep working away at those things that work well for you, in spite of any reason you might have for quitting those actions.
  • Abandon actions and approaches that are unworkable. When you try to do something towards expansion and it does not work, fails, has no effect, or has a negative effect, then this is something you want to cut out and to cut out immediately too. Realistically, tackling business growth should be a fun game to play with victories, not failure. The expression is to not beat a dead horse, and if it doesn’t work, don’t spend unnecessary man hours or business capital continuing to try to make it work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of your sphere or niche market is key to business growth. If you want to grow your business, you need to be the most knowledgeable guy in that sector. You want to go for domination and omnipresence in that area, and in doing so you will have quite a bit of success in the long run. Combining knowledge of your sector with an intensive effort towards expansion will, in the long run, be conducive to your success in expansion.
  • Work a little bit harder, stay a little bit longer, create incentives for your employees to work a little bit harder, and get everyone thinking about the importance of pushing a little bit harder and working a little bit harder to really get the business growing. Ultimately, business growth is all about doing more.  You won’t grow your business by just taking the same old approach and following the same old routes of action.

Growing a business is not easy, but it’s not necessarily impossible or all too hard either. When growing a business, keep in mind the importance and the necessity of simply pushing in the same direction and applying what works and dropping away what doesn’t work. Business growth is going to happen if you keep working at it, with the above tips and many others being the key to growth in business. When you set out to grow your business, know that this will be a challenge yes but a truly worthwhile one. It might take some intensive effort and work now, in the short term, but the long-term pay off at the end will be well worth the effort.
