Veterans in Addiction Recovery: Why They Should Become Entrepreneurs

For a long time now drug and alcohol addiction has been a big problem all across the United States.  In fact, drug and alcohol addiction has always been a present problem and crisis issue; it is just that now more so than perhaps ever before it is especially serious.

Since the turn of the century, drug and alcohol addiction has been going up and up.  Take a look at just these few, quick statements that were made from key organizations about this country’s current addiction problem:

  • Currently, there are about a staggering twenty-three million Americans who are addicted to drugs and alcohol according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
  • Currently, there are no less than eighty to one-hundred thousand Americans who die from drug and alcohol use and abuse each and every year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Currently, about a good half a million individuals become newly addicted to drugs and alcohol each and every year according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
  • Unfortunately, only about a scant two-hundred thousand get rehabilitated off of their addictions each and every year according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
  • Currently, in this country, there are about one out of every two Americans who knows someone who is an alcoholic, and about on out of every three Americans is closely connected to someone who abuses alcohol according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
  • What’s really sad about it all is that currently, prescription drug abuse is the single most damaging and worrisome substance abuse problem in the country, according to the Trust for American Health.
  • Another grim truth is that about one out of every four children suffers from having a parent who is addicted to drugs or alcohol or a combination of the two, according to the National Institute of Health.

So we can see that addiction and substance abuse, in general, is a very big player in drug and alcohol addiction all across the United States.

Why Veterans in Addiction Recovery Should Become Entrepreneurs

Drug and alcohol addiction is a very harmful and worrisome crisis issue the likes of which this nation has never seen before, at least not on the level that it is currently occurring on.  The problem is statistically speaking at its worst ever and only looks like it is only going to get a lot worse too before it gets any better.  How to handle it?  Get those who are addicted into and through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehabilitation programs, and recovery organizations.  With the kind of help and care that people can achieve at such rehab centers it quickly becomes possible for those who are addicted in these areas to branch out and find true success and true recovery the likes of which they maybe had never experienced before or even thought imaginable.

For veterans, this is especially necessary and needed for them.  A high percentage of this country’s vets are sadly addicted to drugs and alcohol.  They need and want rehabilitation, and once they get the rehabilitation they actually stand a chance of going free from their substance abuse habits on a more permanent level.

Once veterans get rehabilitated, it’s best for them to jump into a new career and get started with a new chapter of their lives.  As a result of military service, veterans are some of the most inspired and diligent people out there.  They work hard, they are organized, they are committed, and they have a lust for action and results.  Veterans can make great entrepreneurs.

Veterans should become entrepreneurs too.  This is one of the greatest ways there is to avoid a relapse.  By entering into the business worked, a veteran is adamantly focusing their attention and their thoughts on the future and engaging in what comes next, not what follows behind.  With a career as an entrepreneur, recovered veterans can become once again a great asset to the nation and to the economy too.
